Michael Kenna - Urban Landscape research

Image
Michael Kenna is a British photographer known for his minimalist and contemplative approach to urban landscape photography. His black and white images are characterised by their strong use of light and shadow, and their ability to convey a sense of serenity and calm.Kenna often uses long exposure times to capture the subtle movements of the city, such as the flow of water in rivers and the movement of clouds in the sky. This technique creates a dreamlike effect that emphasizes the abstract qualities of the urban landscape. For example, in his photograph "Brooklyn Bridge, Study 2, New York, USA," Kenna uses a long exposure to blur the water and create a sense of motion, while the bridge and buildings remain sharp and still. Brooklyn Bridge, Study 2, New York, USA(2006) Kenna's images often focus on the geometry and symmetry of the city's architecture, creating abstract and minimalist compositions.
