Rotten Tomatoes

Rotten Tomatoes is a website about films reviews, trendy, recently movies and also news about movie. They suggest fans with a comprehension guide to what is fresh and what is rotten in movies. They have the tomato meter score for show their opinion about the movie. The tomato meter is represent the percentage of professional critic. After I explore on this website, I feel their website name and the color is eye-catching and easy to remember.I think their website is very convenient because readers can find every information about movies in one website. The website is easy to read because they use white color background and black color in text, they did not use many colors in the website so it is readable. The navigation on the top of the website are clear and they arrange it very well. It look quite simple and also it is mobile friendly because the picture that they put in website are not too big and not too small still easy to find the details. They use sans serif for font style and use large size for the important topic. They also have hyperlink for their social media contact in home page. For my own website I will keep it simple same as this website and make it convenient to find the information also easy to read.

 IMDb

IMDb is popular movies review website this is because it include reviews, pictures, videos, and etc. They allowed everyone to reviews or vote the movies and shows. This website is kind of different from the first website, they use black color as a background and use white color for the text or articles. Furthermore, they don’t have a separate navigation, they only have a ‘Menu’ button to click and then will drop the category of movies, TV shows, celebs, awards, and community. This site not only has information about movies or TV shows but also has information about awards & events and additional details about celebs. It is also easy to recognize because of the color of the logo, for the font style they use sans serif so it is easy to read for online articles. Target audience of this website might be young people or people who love to read the feedback of the movies before watching it and people who like to share their opinion about the movies in public. I would like to take some strengths from this site to my own project such as I will add all details about movies for example Director, actor, actress, Music by, producer, film editor, and etc. Also I would like to make my site as a free space where anyone can comment or give their opinion about the movie.

From this two website they have similarity and difference. Both of them use sans serif for font style, have a white space on the left and right on the web page, have a pictures from movie also have poster of the movie. The size of pictures are not too big and not to small. Both of them are mobile friendly but at some sections it need to scroll right to left or left to right to see all the movies. However, they have some difference such as navigation, Rotten tomatoes have separate navigation about movies, TV shows and etc. But for IMDb website they have only one drop down menu then after click that will drop the category of movies, TV shows, awards, and etc.  In my opinion, Rotten tomatoes website is more easy to find the information. In additional, how they arrange the web page is also different. To explain IMDb have a section on right side for up coming movies but for Rotten tomatoes have only one on the center. The obviously different in colour of the background for IMDb have a black background but Rotten tomatoes have a white colour as a background, So that it made IMDb looks more serious and good for night mood.

  1. What can you learn from both websites? What will you takeaway in your own website? Add more screenshots to show what you mean for different parts of your explanation. For example, when you talk about the navigation, do a screenshot of the navigation. Explain how are these websites relevant to your research?
